Originally from Austin, Texas, Thomas English has been a Montana resident since
1991. English is an avid outdoor painter as well as a studio painter. He has participated in many shows throughout the
United States and his work has been widely collected. English has participated many times in the C.M. Russell Auction,
Quick Draw, and Masters in Miniature. Other shows include the Treasure State Invitational, the Montanan Land Reliance,
Plein Air Tucson, Masters in Montana, and many gallery shows. He was
invited to attend the annual Glacier National Park "Superintendents" Hike and many times to the annual "Russell
Ride" at the Circle Bar Ranch, near Utica, Montana, as an "artist guest". English has had one-man shows at
the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art in Great Falls, Montana and at the Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell, Montana.
During the Hockaday Museum showing the museum purchased one of his paintings of Glacier National Park for their permanent
collection. His work has been displayed at the Governors' Mansion in Helena, MT, and he also was awarded the prestigious
"Artist in Residency" in Glacier National Park. He is a founding member and was the first President of the
Montana Painters Alliance. "The wonderful world and work of the California
Impressionists, the American Impressionists, and Hew Hope School, near Philadelphia, have all had an influence on my life,
my painting and my philosophy."
